Job Description:

Energy Specialist is primarily responsible for traveling to pre-scheduled appointments to install energy efficient equipment and products. Services are targeted to small commercial markets including building owners, management companies, and small business owners.  

This position may be responsible for completing single-family walk-through energy efficiency assessments, the installation of energy efficiency equipment and products, and for deepening customer awareness of and participation in rebate programs and the Utility’s energy efficiency program.  They are also responsible for responding to general customer inquiries regarding utility services they receive and for directing the customer to the appropriate contact at the utility company.

  • Daily travel to pre-scheduled appointments at apartments, condo units and other qualified building types 
  • Ensure that established daily performance goals are met to achieve program objectives 
  • Complete walk-through energy assessments of properties that identify key natural gas and electric saving opportunities (all living space, basement, attic, and exterior perimeter of building).
  • Respond to general utility customer service inquiries during home visit (Smartmeter, Refrigerator/Freezer Recycling, Lighting and white good rebate programs, on-bill financing, etc.)  This could include showing customers short videos on Utility company websites or helping them sign into their utility account online. 
  • Perform all required duties as directed to install energy efficient equipment and products including aerators, showerheads, and compact fluorescent lights
  • Occasional weekend travel to a job site to accommodate a customer’s need may be required
  • Complete and maintain all required paperwork, records, documents, etc. Conduct inventory counts and submit inventory reports as requested by management
  • Assure the cleanliness and organization of Walker-Miller warehouse locations and fleet vehicle parking areas by regularly assisting with the cleaning and organization of those areas - this includes proper storage of product and recycling materials, if applicable
  • Assure assigned fleet vehicles have all safety products located within and attached to the vehicle, and that the vehicles are kept clean and orderly
  • Perform routine vehicle safety inspections and submit inspection and maintenance reports to management upon request 
  • Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations 
  • Advise internal teams on any relevant program concerns and recommend changes to current procedures based on field interactions and customer
  • Other duties, as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

  • If not currently vaccinated, you must be willing to get vaccinated as a condition of employment, requiring you to get the first shot upon offer acceptance and the second shot on schedule as per CDC recommendation
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • One to three years of experience preferably in basic wiring, lighting, HVAC, troubleshooting and/or other technologies installed in commercial/residential applications
  • One to two years of previous customer service experience required
  • Mechanical and technical aptitude required
  • Experience in installing technologies, manual labor and using tools – Preferred
  • Background in one or more of the following: – Preferred
    • Building science and design
    • Building envelope
    • Weatherization or related fields
    • Building maintenance
    • Home inspection
    • HVAC, lighting, controls, or renewable energy
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Must be able to handle a wide work variety and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be a detail-oriented, organized, self-starter, and have an ability to prioritize workload
  • Ability to identify and resolve project application issues with customers
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Strong data entry skills in entering information in tracking systems/databases
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with customers and clients
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and solve practical problems
  • Reliable Transportation
